Pit and fissure sealants are an effective and painless approach to preventing the formation of cavities on the chewing surfaces of teeth. Most teeth develop with inherent deep pits and grooves on the biting surfaces. These deep pits and grooves can be quite narrow and deep, that even with proper brushing and flossing will remain highly susceptible to bacterial invasion. By cleaning and sealing off these pits and fissures with a resin material, you can prevent bacteria from creating cavities on the biting surfaces of your teeth. And because fissure sealants are non-invasive procedure, the whole appointment is completed without local anesthesia (freezing) and is a great way to lower the risk of cavities for both children and adults.
